Professional Practices & Ethics Committee
Ron Dunn, Chairperson
Members: Kelly Calder, Don Barker, Kent Rich

The primary responsibilities of the Professional Practices and Ethics Committee are to promote professionalism and improve public safety of buildings through specific activities as directed by the SEAU board. This includes investigations of reported malpractice by structural engineers, working with DOPL and other agencies to develop procedures and evaluation tools, and coordinating efforts with other committees with similar or related activities. One of the objectives is to promote a professional image consistent with the performance and responsibilities of structural engineers such that compensation is equitable.

2003-2004 Goals

  1. Complete the standard practice guideline for a permit submittal to the Building Department. This information could be distributed to each local Building Department.
  2. Develop as a sister document to the guideline, a commentary on substandard practice with examples and 10 steps for spotting inadequate submittals.
  3. Continue to provide input and articles for the newsletter
